Belt Grinder
-
One of my first
projects to finish, after
I got my lathe, was this
belt grinder.
-
It uses a 60 x
21/2 inch belt. Motor is a 1 hp 1725 rpm. It is modeled (not
copied, I'm not that good) after
pictures of a Burr King.
-
The frame is made
from 3/4 inch plate, edged with 2 x 1/4 inch flat, all welded
together. Work lamp is a piece of pipe with ends welded, and
an aluminum piece inside as a reflector.
-
The base plate
is 2 pieces of 1/4 inch plate, welded together. I was running
out of scrap stock.
-
The stand is 3
inch pipe welded on a truck wheel. It make a good heavy base.
-
Guard door is
1/4 inch plate, attached with regular door hinges. Hey,
it works.
-
Total weight is
about 250 lbs.
-
Adjustable
wheel guard with platten attached, and table with adjustable
bracket.
Wheel guard and platten can
be move out of the way. Table bracket swings to the radius
of the drive wheel, allowing for wheel contact grinding. |

I have made four of these knives to date, forging automobile leaf spring for the blade. This drawing is just to keep it in my memory for the next one I make.
